You don’t need Discord for plain text chat. IRC gets the job done just fine, costs less than a “server boost” to run, and puts you firmly in the driver’s seat (especially where privacy is concerned). And you also get to run a real server, not whatever it is that Discord considers a “server”, which is definitely not a server.
There are countless reasons to run an IRC server today, ranging from having a space for casual fun chat with friends to organizing communities or collaborating on massive projects. IRC is simple, lightweight, easy to use, and completely free and open technology.
Ready to take the leap? Let’s go!
The rabid adherents of AI – not those who feel compelled to use it for work, but the ones who won’t shut the fuck up about it – are too blinkered, greedy, or ignorant to see the writing on the wall. They do not love computers; maybe they never did.
Discourse is a super nice, extremely robust, highly capable platform that can support the needs of many types of communities. You can think of it as an incredibly flexible (and infinitely customizable) forum that ships with very nice chat capabilities. It’s a compelling option for communities that can no longer tolerate Discord’s privacy or safety issues, or for those who are just tired of seeing those goddamned Nitro advertisements all over the place.
Last month, FLEUR! finally released their debut album ‘Fleur Fleur FLEUR!’. Its 11 tracks perfectly document the band’s carefree attitude and growth as songwriters while also proudly embracing their roots in ’60s pop and rock music.
That’s where the SDC comes in. Through a rigorous editorial and interdisciplinary research process with law schools and practitioners from across the country in several disciplines, the SDC provides concrete ways for communities to amend development codes and adapt to changes as they occur. The SDC aims to help all local governments, regardless of size and budget, build more resilient, environmentally conscious, economically secure and socially equitable communities.
