Scan a Github repo and see if there's AI code/permissions/etc. in there
Generative AI, namely LLMs, image and video diffusion models and especially the companies that make them plague the tech industry.
We got tired, so we decided to take things into our own hands and curate a list of projects that aren't complicit in the devaluing of labor by these companies.
Unlike projects that came before us, we want to highlight software that values the labor that goes into creating and not call out projects that use LLMs or Image/Video Diffusion models.
Free/Open Source Software choosing to use and/or support LLM usage/AI, as well as alternatives and tips to requesting better policies or forking.
I've made Linux themes/rices with so many different aesthetics, but they've all been quite "obvious". So in this video I create a linux theme with a more esoteric and, experimental aesthetic...

More than a decade after investigations found that Exxon Mobil had known about the dangers of global warming since the 1970s but publicly downplayed the threat, lawsuits against oil companies have proliferated. There are nearly 40 of these cases pending across the country, according to Margaret Barry, who manages a climate litigation database at Columbia Law School’s Sabin Center. After years of delay tactics from the oil industry, at least five of these lawsuits — from Massachusetts, Vermont, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, and Honolulu — have proceeded to the discovery stage, in which both sides try to uncover evidence to bolster their case in court. That’s the last major step before a trial, when oil executives would be forced to defend their actions in front of a jury.

flohmarkt is a self-hostable web application that can be used to show small ads that registered users may publish. These small ads are not limited to live on only the one server they were created at. Instead they can be shared among other flohmarkt servers as well as many other servers that are part of the fediverse (e.g mastodon-servers).
Really cute idea (like the old LJ sales journals/comms) and could be great for super-local communities.

Your data is so precious that stores will stop at nothing to get it from you. Including offering you free things, discounts, sweepstakes, and all kinds of "perks." Just become one of the "club," collect "points," be a "VIP," grab a card for CVS, Shoprite, Wegmans, and watch the cents come off at the till! Those perks sure seem great, but they are gateways to tracing your purchases at an ever more fine-grained level.

I aged out of the program at 12, and we kept milking those BOOK IT! slips for years thanks to my baby-faced little sister. But, once she hit the threshold five years later, the jig was up. By then, I was 17, and those itty-bitty little pizzas weren't doing much for me anymore. I'd graduated to making my own pizza bagels or driving over to Philly with my friends for a monster slice from Lorenzo & Sons on South Street. I still mourned. It wasn't so much the loss of our Pizza Hut bounty that stung as the knowledge that I was growing up and those golden hours — uncomplicated, innocent, and good — with my grandma weren't coming back. It was the end of an era, and my empire had crumbled into oregano-flecked dust.
